The History of Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way
Since 1968, local businesses and individuals have donated millions of dollars through direct donations and employee payroll deductions to benefit tens-of-thousands of men, women and children in need through the “Community Chest” program. In fact, during the past 10 years alone, nearly $5,000,000 has been raised, with 98 percent of that money staying locally to improve the quality of life for people in Yuba, Sutter and Colusa counties.
A second program called “Community Impact” was added in 2015. Donations directed to “Community Impact” help provide grants to non-profit organizations to start programs or grow existing programs focused on “Healthier Children,” for ages prenatal through 17. Currently, grant awards are $5,000 and $25,000.
Through the “Community Chest” program you can designate your donation to any IRS registered non-profit organization – local, national or international – and monies are forwarded by Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way to those organizations for a small processing fee.
Undesignated donations are shared between the “Healthier Children” program and the “Community Chest” program’s 28 local non-profit “Partner Agencies” serving this area’s children, families and individuals.
Funded “Partner Agency” activities address community needs in the areas of:
- Food and shelter
- Youth development
- Strengthening and supporting families
- Supporting disabled and aging populations
- Building healthy communities
The Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way, its Partner Agencies and its “Healthier Children” grantees serve, in an average month, more than 15,500 unduplicated persons in Yuba, Sutter and Colusa counties!
